A laborer in any capacity whether, bridge, pipe, or roadway, can be expected to bend, climb, kneel, and lift objects 50 pounds or more. Work in close proximity with heavy equipment and traffic. Laborers are periodically required to drive company vehicles when implementing traffic controls, accessing tools, retrieving tools/material, and staging work zones. Those who drive or have the potential to drive company vehicles are encouraged to obtain a valid DOT Medical Card to ensure their fitness. Laborers are expected to safely use hand tools such as levels, shovels, loots, hammers, and other specialty tools related to their work. They are also expected to safely use power tools. Based on demands and restrictions work shifts can include daylight and nighttime hours. Work will be performed at heights, in excavations, on uneven surfaces, and possibly hot surfaces when placing asphalt. In some cases laborers could be subjected to work in confined spaces. All job duties performed by laborers of any capacity are classified as safety sensitive due to the nature of the work and industry. They also have the potential to pose safety risks to other employees and the public. All listed job duties are essential.
