Road-Con reconstructed the existing sidewalk utilizing a combination of new materials and reset brick pavers for new ADA ramps in Center City Philadelphia. The project was comprised of ramp locations posing very difficult constraints such as granite curbing, brick pavers, slate, and flagstone which are all sidewalk elements in this historic area. Adding to the project’s complexity, some of the sidewalk areas were “structural,” spanning what were once coal delivery chutes on century old buildings. Road-Con’s entire project was comprised of ramps that had been “skipped” in past years due to these difficult constraints. This fact, coupled with the intense vehicular and foot traffic inherent to Center City, made this the most difficult ADA project we have completed to date. 60 percent of the ramps, including all with granite, brick, and flagstone, were completed 100% with Road-Con forces. The remaining 40% of the locations were prepared by Road-Con and poured by Cocco Contracting, one of our trusted flatwork subcontractors.
