PA Turnpike Commission Open Road Tolling Facilities

Road-Con completed one of the first segments of the PA Turnpike Commission’s implementation of the Open Road Tolling (ORT) system. ORT, a cashless, free-flowing mode of collecting tolls without traditional tollbooths, was introduced in Pennsylvania on January 5, 2205. Our project consisted of four sites from Norristown to Lancaster (MP 290.7, 309.8, 312.7, and 330.6), each comprised of a cashless toll building and an ORT gantry structure. The temperature-controlled buildings house emergency back-up power and a data room to operate tolling equipment.  The gantry structure is comprised of drilled shaft foundations, precast concrete columns, and a steel monotube gantry. Road-Con was proud to be part of this historic effort to improve travel on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
