Road-Con, Inc. is an award-winning heavy and highway contractor with a track record of delivering premier construction solutions to our customers by incorporating value, scheduling, and experience without compromising safety. We’ve spent more than 20 years building infrastructure throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey for state, municipal, and private sector customers.
The number one factor in our success is the quality of the team we have assembled. Road-Con attracts the highest caliber people the heavy and highway market has to offer because of our commitment to providing long-term career opportunities in a safe, productive, and positive work environment.
Road-Con is equipped to provide asphalt paving from the simplest commercial parking lots to the most sophisticated highways and airports. Our employees undergo training to ensure safety in all paving environments, from rural back roads to heavily traveled highways. Road-Con has extensive experience with traffic control on major infrastructure projects. Our milling and paving equipment is fitted with both 3D GPS and 2D surface controls. We have the ability to make single pass paving widths of up to 30 feet when required by specifications. Quality control is ensured by NECEPT certified staff. Whether day or night, Road-Con has the expertise and equipment to deliver expert paving safely and on schedule.
Our list of completed bridge reconstruction projects ranges from small precast stream crossings to multi-span railroad and highway bridges, to various types of rehabilitation projects. Road-Con has even successfully completed various historic steel truss and stone masonry rehabilitations. Road-Con also built one of the first Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) projects for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. We constructed dual mainline spans of the turnpike adjacent to the roadway during normal working hours and laterally slid them into place during a 55-hour weekend shutdown of the roadway. Road-Con has a competitive edge when it comes to delivering difficult structure projects on time and under budget because we self-perform demolition, excavation support, piles, girder erection, and formwork.
The necessity of bringing our infrastructure into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) laws has presented the construction industry with a great challenge. While this item of work looks simple to the public, the level of engineering and preciseness of construction tolerances required to achieve approval of the installation is extremely high. Our experience with successful completion of these projects dates back 20 years and accounts for thousands of successfully installed ramps from rural Chester and Lehigh Counties to the heart of Center City Philadelphia where special historic treatments such as granite curb and brick footways had to be addressed. Road-Con is uniquely qualified for ADA ramp construction because we handle the complex design process with in-house staff, which reduces the overall project time significantly.
Road-Con has extensive experience building every sound wall style and design, including ground-mounted, structure-mounted, precast posts, steel posts, reflective, absorptive, drilled shaft, and spread footer foundations. We can build to your design or provide a complete Design/Build solution. Sound wall construction has been a core area of expertise for Road-Con’s structure group for decades.
We are staffed and equipped to provide storm drainage installations, from small-diameter pipe underdrains to large 84-inch-diameter pipe. In addition, we regularly complete precast box culvert installations as stand-alone projects, or as a component of a larger reconstruction project. Road-Con has completed countless challenging drainage construction projects, but our most memorable involves jacking an 8-foot-by-9-foot precast box culvert under the Pennsylvania Turnpike without impacting normal operations.
One of the most challenging aspects of a streetscape project is that they always occur in urban areas with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Our experience with a diversity of projects over the years has given us the ability to manage the staging of these projects, maintaining access to the adjacent businesses while productively advancing the project. Pottstown, Chester, and Jenkintown are among the areas in which Road-Con has successfully navigated complex streetscape projects.
Our extensive bridge and caisson installation capabilities led to a unique specialization in sign structures and tolling gantries. Self-performing both of these items gives us an advantage over competitors that elect to subcontract a portion of this work. Recent contracts have included multi-county structure installations for the Pennsylvania Turnpike to prepare for All-Electronic Tolling. Road-Con constructed structures spanning up to 160 feet with drilled shaft foundations as deep as 40 feet, overhead DMS boards, and tolling gantries.
What was developed out of necessity during our sound wall installation projects in the 1990s grew into a specialty in caisson work. Road-Con can perform drilled shaft installation and predrilling for piles for various types of projects. We can handle diameters of up to 72 inches and depths of up to 60 feet. In addition, Road-Con owns short mast equipment for projects with difficult overhead conditions. We also have the unique ability to provide rail-mounted drilling equipment for projects where access is restricted to riding the tracks to the work area.
